Knowledge of the Swinging Radius of a Boat at Anchor A easy way to estimate the swing radius of the boat is to add the length of the rode to the overall length of the boat.  The swing radius will always be less than this.  For fun, a more accurate determination can be made by using the following equation:

LOA +  [ (Rode )2 - (Depth + Freeboard )2 ]1/2
