bulletBrendan Sailing Program:  The Brendan sail training program is a 2 week day camp for children with learning differences.  Learning differences are disabilities which affect the child's ability to understand the written word or perform mathematics.   Sailing helps train the child to focus and expands the child's social skills and ability to work as a team.   The children learn by doing, building confidence and self-esteem as they accomplish the skills involved in sailing.  The program has a special curriculum, boats and trained instructors, and is carried out in the proper learning environment.     ** View Video of The Brendan Sailing Program **

Sailors With Special Needs:  The Committee on Sailors With Special Needs was created by US SAILING as a part of its efforts to promote sailing and sailboat racing to everyone.  The Committee and its members are dedicated to the proposition that sailing, of which sailboat racing is a part, is a true lifetime sport where disabled sailors can participate, on equal terms, with anyone.  The Committee is responsible for promoting sailing to persons with disabilities, representing disabled sailors to US SAILING; addressing practical issues of training, education and access to sailing and boating facilities.  The Committee also oversees the Independence Cup; selecting the US Disabled Sailing Team; and, working with the Olympic Sailing Committee, selecting a team to compete in the Paralympic Regatta

Paralympics:  The Paralympics are a multi-sport, multi-disability competition of elite, world-class, disabled athletes, similar in scope to the Olympic Games. The Paralympic Games are held approximately two weeks after the Olympic Games in the same host city/country. The difference between the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games is that the Paralympics provide an elite competition opportunity to athletes with a functional disability which precludes their involvement in open competition of the Olympic Games. Paralympic athletes go through rigorous training year-round to prepare for their respective events. They are the best of the best; who through determination and hard work, earn the honor of representing the United States on the competitive playing field.
